Members of the Hermanus History Society enjoyed a visit to the Strandveld Museum in Franskraal. This tiny private museum is owned by Jan and SD Fourie who have a passion and thorough knowledge of the history of the area and enjoyed sharing their stories with the members.
The museum was originally the house of the headman on Dyer Island whenever he came to visit the mainland.
Some of the original furniture that he owned is still in the museum including a large collection of the daily life of an island worker.
The museum is in possession of the largest private collection of Birkenhead relics.
